What Is Music?

A song which gives you that all-surrounding, all-encompassing feeling of music as a river. It picks you up in its perfect simplicity and sends you downstream with nothing but a raft and an old beat-up guitar. You're leaving the city, you're heading off and out into the unknown world. It's been so long now since everyone moved to the city that there's no one to be found out here. You pass old fishing villages, abandoned homes and docks. And just keep going. There's a glorious, very soft crescendo in the music. It builds up, ever so subtly, ever so softly, that you almost don’t notice it. Then the music falls out, and those few beautiful notes plucked on the violin come back to fill your ears. It’s beauty by design, approached on purpose, but discovered by accident. It all fills your body, shakes your limbs like ill-supported branches in a blustery breeze. Loosens you up so you can sway without snapping, so you can feel without faking.

Beneath its spell, we slip under.
